AI TALENT TOUR 2026
Cork, 09.06.26
9.30am - 4.00pm
Republic of Work
12 South Mall

WHAT TO EXPECT ON THE DAY
We're excited for you to participate in our first hiring day. We know traditional interviewing can be unrealistic, writing code on a whiteboard or answering technology trivia questions. Since the earliest days of Brightbeam, one of our most important values has been "Show don't tell". We want to create a friendly environment where you can show us your real-world skills.
We'll make sure you have desk space, good Internet connectivity over a WiFi network and somewhere to plug in your laptop. We'll provide lunch along with tea and coffee. Everyone will get an Anthropic API key to use while they're building too.
GETTING READY FOR THE DAY
These are resources that will help you prepare and we think are generally helpful:
-
"Cognitive load is what matters" https://minds.md/zakirullin/cognitive
-
"A Guide to Naming Variables" https://a-nickels-worth.dev/papers/varnaming/
-
"Building with the Claude API" https://anthropic.skilljar.com/claude-with-the-anthropic-api (even if you're already familiar with LLMs, the "Accessing Claude with the API" section is worth reviewing)

Please bring a laptop that can connect to WiFi, your charger and any accessories you need to work comfortably. You should have your preferred development environment/IDE set up and ready to go.
We'll present you with a self-contained project that's very similar to the work we do with our customers. You can work alone or with others, but you'll need a complete implementation you can explain, running on your laptop by the end of the day.
You are welcome to use coding assistants, though you are responsible for the quality of your code and you must be able to discuss design decisions in your solution.
There will be Brightbeam engineers in the room available for questions, pairing and discussion, but you should be comfortable building systems independently.
WHAT WE'LL BE LOOKING FOR
We'd like you to demonstrate:
An understanding of working with LLMs. If this is new to you, we'd highly recommend the free Anthropic "Building with the Claude API" tutorial linked above.
Writing and evaluating prompts
Setting appropriate API parameters
Validating and evaluating output
Simple, clean, production-ready code.
Well factored, functions generally only do one thing (and can be tested)
Well named variables, functions, classes, modules, filenames, etc.
Good error handling that doesn't silently ignore errors
Some unit tests on critical logic (we don't expect comprehensive tests during this session)
During the day, we'll give you an opportunity to speak 1:1 with a Brightbeam engineer:
-
We'll ask you about your proudest professional project or achievement, going deep into the technical details.
-
You'll take us through the solution you've built, explaining how it works and anything you learned or discovered during the day.
-
You can ask us any questions you have about working at Brightbeam.
We’re looking forward to meeting you in person next week.
If you have any questions between now and then, please email elizabeth.beale@brightbeam.com
