APPLIED AI AND KNOWLEDGE SOVEREIGNTY

When an expert explains their job to an agent, where does that knowledge end up?

We were at last week's International AI Summit in Dublin. And its big theme was applied AI as the place Ireland and Europe can win, and we agree.

But applied AI runs on expertise: the judgement of people who know how a production line or a claims desk works day to day. And unless organisations are deliberate about building their own capability around that judgement, they can’t guarantee the sovereignty of their expertise. It can leak.

A country can give away its expert knowledge that way without ever deciding to.

So getting good at applied AI means keeping what your experts know in systems you own, and ones that survive a change of model.

It’s the same choice for a single company as for a country. And it's far easier to make at the start of a project than at the end.

Before the next AI project on your list gets going, where will your experts' knowledge live when it's done?
